Welcome to my Web Portfolio! As I begin my Job hunt, this blog will tell you a bit about the process of making this website, and this being its first entry and all, I thought it would be the right topic.
I became enamored with the idea of a Web Portfolio, it promotes an easier way to engage and a faster medium for connecting with potential employers on personal level. I experienced a bunch while making this website, and let me tell you, easy... may not be the best description, it had its challenging moments.
For example; Coming up with a structure that should be simple to navigate, one that can promote interaction as well as having a thematic cohesion, and most importantly hoping users can connect with the material and enjoy their design intentions felt like no easy task.
I learned that making a "live version of the portfolio" became a motivating platform for my architectural desires, a tool that allowed a great deal of self-discovery. The process of uploading, formatting and collecting material in one place is fantastic. Instead of the usual print portfolio, which soon becomes stale as you develop your technical skills, sharing what you're working on under "one roof" just clicked!
For example; Want to revamp that old design with newly learned software skill? Found a publication with your work on it from 2005? Practice a new program so you can make that render on your 'feature' page awesome? That was my light bulb moment.
The process of updating a singular platform not only saves time but it also becomes an engine for your own personal discovery process and as an architect, it's my personal relationship with the built environment.
Plus you get to celebrate your work! Remember those all "nighter's" and the friends that shaped your projects? They live here too. As a matter of fact throughout this process, I wish I were in studio with them and my professors so that this website could also be a collection of all of our exchanges too. I couldn't be happier with its potential and will continuously update and add material here. I'll post snippets on the 'Latest and Greatest' tab to your right.
In this post I'm featuring the latest addition to the site, The Circle Chair, designed and fabricated in Finland with local veneer, using similar techniques found in Alvar Aalto's furniture woodwork.
I would love to hear your feedback about the site or any projects on the comments section!
With care,
Marina Miers
